Yoga Ed’s Professional Institute 1: Foundations is a four-day program designed for individuals who want to learn how to teach yoga to children. Certified by the Yoga Alliance, Professional Institute 1 focuses on the physical, mental and emotional benefits yoga can provide for children. Upon completion of this Institute, you will be fully equipped with tools to help children build a lifetime of health and wellness through the practice of yoga.

No prior background or previous experience is required for this training – only a passion for yoga, education, and the health and wellness of children!

The Professional Institute 1 is for individuals who want to:

  • Improve the health and wellness of the children in their lives
  • Better connect to their children through the practice of yoga
  • Learn how to encourage the best in their children
  • Make a lasting difference in the lives of youths in their community

What You’ll Learn:

PI1 1 equips you with the basic principles and tools needed to effectively teach yoga to children. Although designed for academic environment, the curriculum is easily adapted for use in a variety of settings, including yoga studios, at home, and in healthcare settings. You will learn yoga techniques to promote children’s physical, mental, and emotional health. Emphasis is placed on learning how to read and relate to children, through understanding child development, anatomy, physiology, and learning domains. From this transformational training, you will emerge with the ability to effectively design yoga classes to meet children’s varying needs whether they are at school, home, or a yoga class in their community.  

Focus: 3 to 12 years old

Course Objectives:

  • Understand children’s physical, mental, emotional, and social development including children’s anatomy and physiology
  • Teach yoga from a lens of social emotional learning and brain based learning
  • Know the benefits of yoga for children
  • Embody the Yoga Ed. teaching philosophies
  • Design and develop lesson plans appropriate to the age group you are teaching
  • Effectively utilize yoga breathing, postures, games, and relaxation to meet your children’s needs
  • Create yoga classes to fulfill the National PE standards
  • Teach yoga to children aged 3 to 12

Day 1

  • Overview and Introduction to Yoga Ed.
  • Yoga Ed. Teaching Philosophies: The Practice of Being a Yoga Educator
  • Lesson Planning: Utilizing Yoga Exercises to Design an Engaging Class
  • Classroom Design: Creating a Safe Space for Effective Teaching and Engaged Learning
  • Classroom Observation

Day 2

  • Child Development: Understanding Early and Middle Childhood Developmental Milestones
  • Positive Classroom Management: Cultivating Positive Relationships with Your Students
  • Brain Based Learning: Engaging the Brain with Yoga Education
  • Social Emotional Learning: Supporting Social Emotional Learning through Yoga
  • Children’s Breathing Exercises
  • Child Development: Understanding the Anatomy and Physiology of Children
  • Lesson Planning: Creating Yoga Stories and Sequences
  • The Yoga Tool Belt: Tailoring Yoga Exercises to Your Students’ Needs
  • Classroom Observation

  • Children’s Yoga Postures
  • Children’s Partner Yoga Postures
  • Children’s Relaxation Exercises
  • Lesson Planning: Taking What You have Learned into Practice
  • Practice Teaching

Day 4

  • Practice Teaching
  • Teacher Resources: Enriching Your Students Yoga Experience
  • Taking Children’s Yoga Into the World: Basic Business Principles

Course Materials:

To keep the world green for our children, course materials are delivered digitally. Upon registration for this training, you will receive:
