An introduction to the practice of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

This weekend workshop is going to introduce the practice of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. We will explore the main components of Ashtanga Yoga, namely Vinyasa and Tristhana, and how they apply to practice. Meanwhile, we will study the asanas one after another as well as the transitions in between in detail. The workshop is designed for those who has just begun in their journey of Ashtanga Yoga and wish to deepen their practice.

Schedule
Day 1:
-Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga and its main components
-Simple breathing and movement exercises
-Exploration of Surya Namaskara A & B, and the Standing Sequence

Day 2:
-Exploration of the Seated Sequence, up to Navasana
-Introduction to the transition, i.e. jump back and jump through
-Exploration of the Finishing Sequence

Instructor: Michelle Chen
Michelle comes from Shanghai, China. She is a dedicated student of yoga asana, pranayama, meditation and yoga philosophy. Under the influence of her primary teacher Charat Singh, Michelle has been extensively exposed to the traditional Indian system of yoga practice, through which she has built up the foundation to support her spiritual development. During the past two years, Michelle has been to Bhalia Yoga ashram of India twice, studying pranayama, meditation as well as yoga scriptures such as Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Bhagavad Gita intensively with Sri Rajpal Rajyogacharya. Meanwhile, she’s been doing regular Ashtanga practice with Bela Lipat since 2008. Michelle took her Yoga Alliance Accredited 200 hours Teacher Training with Paul Dallaghan, a certified Ashtanga teacher. Michelle has been assisting many yoga workshops as a translator in various cities in China. Currently she is teaching Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow at Satya Yoga, Hangzhou.
